UX Case study

The Brief

At the end of my UX/UI Bootcamp at Ironhack, a classmate and I were assigned to develop an application called Innvertir, aimed at educating people with no prior experience in Web3 through games and tutorials. The challenge wasn’t easy, as we only had two weeks to complete it.

UX Research

Based on the Design Thinking model, my teammate and I spent part of the first week of the project empathizing with users’ needs and the context in which our product would exist.
As a result of this research, we discovered that out of 29 survey respondents and 5 interviewees, Web3 and cryptocurrencies were very interesting topics for many. However, when it came to actually buying or investing in a digital asset, users chose not to do so. The reasons were mainly two:

  1. They did not fully understand how to carry out a transaction through exchange apps.

  2. They considered Web3 and cryptocurrencies to be very risky.

An example of this can be seen in Daniela, an art teacher, who said:

'Cryptocurrencies are a scam. I don’t understand why people want to invest in that kind of thing.'"

The problem

Given this type of feedback, we realized that the core problem of our project could be summarized as follows: users interested in cryptocurrencies need to learn about the functioning and benefits of Web3 in order to invest and operate within this ecosystem without feeling distrust.

User persona

This issue not only motivated us to create this empathy map:

It also gave us the opportunity to create a User Persona, as shown in the image below:

Alongside this analysis, my teammate and I created an Affinity Map:

Thanks to this, we were able to identify the following design opportunities:

  • The user needs a friendly application with an engaging design that motivates learning.

  • The application needs educational videos to make the experience more interactive.

These findings became a key element during the prototyping phase, as it was at this stage that we defined the visual styles for the app, as shown in the project's Style Tile:

Ux Writing

The UX Writing challenge here is to make investing feel as exciting, clear, and accessible as playing a video game, without compromising the trust and security required in financial matters.

🗣️ Brand Voice
The voice of Innvertir is:

  • Clear and reliable: avoids excessive jargon but remains precise.

  • Playful: incorporates light references to the gamer/Web3 world.

  • Motivating: encourages informed decision-making with confidence.

🎚️ Tone by Context

  • Onboarding: the app uses a friendly, enthusiastic, gamer-friendly tone, giving the user the feeling of starting a mission:
“Welcome, crypto explorer. Your mission begins here: learn, play, and invest with confidence.”

  • Action confirmations: when the user completes an action, like purchasing cryptocurrency, the tone is brief, positive, and motivating, reinforcing the achievement:
“Level Up! 🚀 You just added 0.5 ETH to your inventory.”

  • Warnings or errors: the tone remains clear, direct, and calm to avoid causing anxiety:
“Your connection failed ⚡. Please retry in a few seconds or check your network.”

  • Educational content or tips: the tone is instructive, using gamer analogies to make financial concepts easier to understand:
“Think of your portfolio as a set of items: diversification is key to making your character (you) stronger.”

  • Reminders or notifications: the tone is brief with a playful touch to maintain motivation:
“🎯 Daily bonus: check your portfolio progress and unlock new opportunities.”

High-Fidelity Prototype

At the end of this process, my teammate and I created Innvertir, a mobile application that guides users through topics such as Web3 and cryptocurrencies. Our app aims to teach in a fun way, so in each section, the user is accompanied by a series of characters called Minvu, whose goal is to make the learning experience more engaging.

Next steps

To continue the development of the Innvertir mobile app, we plan to add an NFT marketplace (of Minvvs in this case), build a community, and improve the cryptocurrency exchange process.
